THE ART OF SCREENWRITING

The National Board of Review Sponsors Seminar

Featuring Prominent Screenwriters

 New York, NY – The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures presents its latest educational film seminar, The Art of Screenwriting on Monday, April 18 th, 2005 . The panel discussion will take place from 7pm-9pm at the Harmonie Club (4 East 60 th St.) in Manhattan. RSVP: 212-465-9022 or nbrRSVP@nyc.rr.com .   Admission is free.

Jeanine Basinger, chair of Wesleyan University's film studies department, will serve as moderator of the six-person panel. The seminar will focus on their milestones, obstacles, and experiences in the industry of writing for the screen. The panelists participating, including three Academy Award nominees, are: Jay Presson Allen ( Cabaret, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie ), Amy Fox (Heights ), Robert Harling (Steel Magnolias, The First Wives Club ), Richard LaGravenese (The Bridges of Madison County, The Fisher King), David Magee (Finding Neverland), and Stephen Schiff (Lolita, True Crime). The evening will feature a clip reel of the panelists' memorable films, moderated discussion, a Q&A, and brief reception.

The NBR's previous film seminars include Women Directors: How to Hack it in Hollywood, featuring seven directors including Mira Nair and Lee Grant, as well the documentary seminar, Here's Looking at You, hosted by HBO's Sheila Nevins and highlighting seven filmmakers including D.A. Pennebaker and Al Maysles.

 

The National Board of Review, with no commercial ties to the industry, was founded in 1909 to support excellence and free expression in film. The group works to underwrite educational film programs, like Great Documentaries , and endow scholarships for film students and grants for up and coming directors.   In addition, the NBR screens over 300 films per year and kicks off the awards season each December by being the first group to announce annual winners.
