The
2006 National Board of Review Gala Event
To
Be Held at Cipriani 42nd Street on
Tuesday,
January 9, 2007
New
York, NY – July 17, 2006
– The National Board of Review of
Motion Pictures announced today that they
will hold their annual awards gala on
Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at Cipriani
42nd Street in New York City. For the
first time, world-renowned Italian jewelry
designer, BVLGARI, has signed on as the
sole sponsor for this year's ceremony.
Filmmaker-historian John Gallagher will
produce this year's event.
"Like
the NBR, Cipriani is a New York institution
and we are delighted to be holding our
gala in this landmark venue. BVLGARI has
a long association with the cinema and
some of our most glamorous and beloved
movie stars. We are thrilled about
these changes with the NBR gala as our
organization moves towards its 100th birthday,"
says NBR President Annie Schulhof.
“The BVLGARI legacy to Hollywood is one
which continues to be a great source of
inspiration and enormous pride. It is
with great honor and enthusiasm that we
announce our support of NBR 2006 gala
awards,” adds BVLGARI Vice President,
Nicola Bulgari.
The
National Board of Review will screen nearly
300 films for awards consideration in
2006. This year's winners will be announced
on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, marking
the beginning of the awards season.
The
annual awards gala honors the very best
in a variety of categories of film, direction
and performance, as well as new voices
in filmmaking with awards such as the
Directorial Debut Award and Breakthrough
Acting Awards. Past recipients of these
accolades include Zach Braff for Garden
State, Terrence Howard for Hustle
& Flow and Charlize Theron for
Monster. Celebrated veterans
are also acknowledged with special awards
such as the Billy Wilder Award, which
honors directors for their body of work
and the Career Achievement Award, which
honors legends in the film industry. Last
year, director David Cronenberg and Jane
Fonda were honored with these two prestigious
awards.
About
the National Board of Review of Motion
Pictures
Formed
in 1909, the National Board of Review
of Motion Pictures is dedicated to film,
foreign and domestic, as both art and
entertainment. The NBR has supported free
expression in motion picture arts for
over 97 years when, in an effort to avoid
government censorship of films, the National
Board became the unofficial clearinghouse
for new movies. From 1916 into the 1950's
thousands of motion pictures carried the
legend “Passed by the National Board of
Review” in their main or end titles. To
the public, this was the catchphrase of
confidence. The organization works to
foster commentary on all aspects of film
production, to endow scholarships for
film students and to underwrite education
film programs and seminars.
