Andrew Spieler
A Boston native, Andrew Spieler, 2008 NBR Student Grant Awardee for his undergraduate senior thesis film All Before Dawn, earned his BFA, Cum Laude, as a writer/director from the SUNY Purchase Film Conservatory. He continued studying film at the American Film Institute, earning his MFA in Directing in 2009. His graduate thesis short The Response won First Place at the Student BAFTA/LA Awards and was a Blue-Ribbon Panel Finalist for the Student Emmy Awards. The film also garnered a West Coast Regional Finalist nomination from the Student Academy Awards and was screened at eighteen film festivals including the 2010 AFI Festival.
Andrew had the privilege of interning and working in the feature development department for Ridley and Tony Scott’s production company, Scott Free, as well as the Oscar nominated producer Michael London’s film shingle, Groundswell Productions. Since 2009, Andrew has also continued to be an active reader for the Sundance Institute’s Screenwriting Lab and an annual volunteer at the Sundance Film Festival.
Recently, Andrew has been in post on three pilot episodes he directed of a new comedy series “Keeping Up with the Downs,” as well as First Assistant Directing an upcoming Indie Feature produced by Brian Udovich, Producer of The Wackness and fellow AFI Alum. Andrew has two Indie Feature Films, the dark comedy Worst Friends, and thriller Mischief Night that he Associate Produced and Co-Produced that will be hitting the festival circuit in late 2012. Andrew will be pursuing his feature directorial debut later this year.
