My short film SIKUMI premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival where it won the Jury Prize for Short Filmmaking. Since then it has played at nearly 50 festivals worldwide and won 13 awards including wins at the Austin Film Festival, the Woodstock Film Festival, and the ImagineNative Film Festival in Toronto, and was shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination. Based on the success of SIKUMI I was named one of Filmmaker Magazines 25 new faces of Independent Film for 2008, and I received a Rasmuson Fellowship from the United States Artists Foundation.
In the meantime I've been writing a feature length script called ON THE ICE, which is based on SIKUMI. It is a psychological thriller about Iñuit teenagers in Alaska who try to get away with a murder. I was able to workshop the script at the Sundance Screenwriters lab in January, and then again at the Directors lab in June. I am continuing to develop the script on my own and hopefully will be shooting it next Spring in Barrow, Alaska.
