Student Grant Awardees: Where are They Now?

Nitzan Mager

Nitzan Mager, a 2008 NBR Student Grant Winner for her undergraduate thesis film, Period Portrait, has been continuously involved in various creative collaborations ranging from  puppetry films to playwriting and, most notably, earning her MFA in Acting from the prestigious Mason Gross School
of the Arts at Rutgers University. There, she was awarded the Levin Scholarship in recognition of artistic excellence. Most recently, she originated the leading role of Mary Booth in the play, Walking Shadows by William Burton Henline. She has also been cast in the lead role of an as-yet-untitled feature film, due to begin production this winter.

Nitzan has continued to have success behind the camera, as well as in front. For her film, Period Portrait, she was awarded New York Women in Film and Television’s Emerging Female Filmmaker Award, as well as membership to their Next Wave Group. The film was also selected for the NextGen series IFP Film Week, where it screened at Chelsea Cinemas. The film has enjoyed festival screenings around the country, including the Los Angeles Short Film Festival, the Northampton Independent Film Festival, and the Queens International Festival.

“I would like to extend to you once again my most sincere thanks for your recognition and your support. As a young, emerging filmmaker, having the support of a community like NBR, and being given access to such an engaging learning tool is an exceptional privilege. I can easily say that I have learned as much, if not more, from the screenings at NBR, with the accompanying question and answer session, than I did in film school!"
