Lars and the Real Girl

The Top Ten Reasons to see Lars and the Real Girl

#10. You pride yourself on seeing all the top indie movies of the year

#9. If you see it soon, it’ll give you great satisfaction to be able to tell all your friends: “No, it’s not a sleazy movie about a man who sleeps with a sex doll.” You’ll have to admit that he does keep house with her and takes her to parties. But that’s okay for most audiences. It does, after all, have a PG-13 rating

#8. You love films that Manohla Dargis of The New York Times pans and almost everyone else loves

#7. It’s got one of the year’s best original screenplays by TV’s “Six Feet Under” writer Nancy Oliver. And it’s her first!

#6. For a dream supporting cast, which includes Kelli Garner, Emily Mortimer, Paul Schneider, and the irreplaceably brilliant Patricia Clarkson

#5. You’d be remiss to not catch the Best Performance by a sex doll in 2007. Thank you, Bianca, you’re in a category by yourself

#4. It’s wonderfully “Capraesque”

#3.  It will give you new hope for Australian director Craig Gillespie, who also directed the insipid 2007 film Mr. Woodcock (or maybe his evil twin directed that one)

#2. It’s one of those rare films that has the ability to make you laugh and cry . . . sometimes at the same time

And the #1 reason you’ll want to see Lars and the Real     Girl . . .

Ryan Gosling, Ryan Gosling, Ryan Gosling. A chameleon of an actor who doesn’t use prosthetics or padding to create the most indelible and unforgettable characters . . . in this case, the shy and introverted Lars Lindstrom.
