Brüno

“Can I be your plus one?”—Brüno Gehard, host of the Austrian TV show Funkyzeit (from the television ad for the film)

Top reasons you should consider
seeing Sacha Baron Cohen’s Brüno
,

directed by Larry Charles:

You thought Borat was one of the funniest films of 2006. And you haven’t laughed that hard in 2009.

You think the inspired Baron Cohen is today’s closest thing to Andy Kaufman and you thought Kaufman was genius.

You think Larry Charles, who directed Borat and Religulous, knows his way around absurdly ridiculous, awkward, out-there comedic situations.

You want to see a NC-17 film with an R rating and figure out how they accomplished that.

Nothing is too ridiculous or outrageous for you. (There’s a talking penis and we’re not talking animation.)

You can appreciate the difference between homophobia and the examination of same. (Having said that the audience at the cage match set piece near the end of the film is truly horrifying.)

Top reasons to stay home and not see

fashionista Brüno make his feature film debut:

More than five minutes of vulgarity makes your stomach upset even if you have a great sense of humor. In turn, if you thought Borat was vulgar this film is definitely not for you.

You’re afraid this film can’t possibly top Borat. In my opinion it doesn’t in laughs (though there are plenty), but does in sheer outrageousness.

You have no sense of humor whatsoever. (The reverse is not true…you might have a sense of humor and still not enjoy it.)

You think gay characters in film should be tragic.

DVD Extras

You’ll have to wait for the DVD to see LaToya Jackson doing an impersonation of her brother.

It was pulled at the last minute in respect to the Jackson family upon Michael’s death.
