2004
NATIONAL BOARD OF REVIEW
PRODUCER'S AWARD
New
York, NY – November 4, 2004 –
The National Board of Review of Motion
Pictures will present prolific producer
Jerry Bruckheimer with the 2004 Producer's
Award at the annual gala on Tuesday, January
11, 2005 in New York City.
From
American Gigolo, Flashdance,
Dangerous Minds, and The Rock,
to Armageddon, Pearl Harbor,
Remember the Titans, and Pirates
of the Caribbean, Bruckheimer is
one of the most innovative producers of
the last twenty years. With a knack for
entertaining audiences, Bruckheimer's
passionate storytelling truly has the
midas touch with his films earning worldwide
revenues of over $13.5 billion in box
office, video and recording receipts.
In
2001, the NBR honored Bruckheimer's Black
Hawk Down as one of their top ten
films of the year and “the organization
is thrilled to be honoring him again with
such a special award,” said Annie Schulhof,
president of the National Board of Review.
“Whether engaged in large-scale action-adventure
blockbusters or more intimate character-driven
productions, the Bruckheimer signature
guarantees a film of distinction.”
The
National Board first recognized producers
at the 2003 NBR Gala with a trio of groundbreaking
females: Kathleen Kennedy, Gale
Anne Hurd, and Christine Vachon. The organization
created the award to honor the integral
and indispensable role of the producer,
who is sometimes overlooked during the
award season, with the accolades often
focusing on actors and directors.
The
full list of 2004 winners including Best
Film and Best Actor and Actress will be
released on Wednesday, Dec. 1,
2004
(www.nbrmp.org).
The National Board of Review, with no
commercial ties to the industry, was founded
in 1909 to support excellence and free
expression in film. The group screens
over 300 films per year and honors the
very best in a variety of categories of
film, direction and performance.
In addition, the NBR works to endow scholarships
for film students and to underwrite educational
film programs and seminars.
